Herbs in Action
Cranberry fruit: Cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon) contain A-type proanthocyanidins, which are plant compounds that support healthy microbial balance in the urinary tract. Cranberries have an affinity for the bladder and kidneys, helping to nourish urinary tract health. Cranberries also support healthy fluid balance and may promote more frequent urination, which supports natural flushing of the urinary system.
Uva Ursi leaf: Arctostaphylos uva-ursi is commonly used for discomforts in the kidney, bladder, or urethra.
Cleavers aerials: Galium aparine is a weed commonly found in fields across North America and Europe. Cleavers aerials support the lymphatic system's natural functions and promote healthy fluid movement throughout the body. It is traditionally used to support the body's natural cleansing processes and waste elimination.
Usnea lichen: Usnea spp. is a lichen that often hangs in tufts from trees and grows on trees, with the body of the plant used to make medicine. Also known as old man's beard, Usnea promotes a restorative immune response, especially in the mucus membranes and respiratory tract. It has also been used to break up mucus and make phlegm easier to cough up. Usnea is often used to combat discomforts and bring the body back to balance.
Dandelion root: Taraxacum officinale is highly nutritious and contains potent free radical scavengers that support the body's natural defenses against environmental stress. Dandelion root supports healthy liver function and digestion with its prebiotic effects. It encourages the body's natural cleansing processes and supports healthy bile production.
Goldenrod aerials: Solidago spp. (gigantea, virgaurea, canadensis) is a plant native to Europe that contains beneficial plant compounds. Goldenrod contains flavonoids, which support a healthy inflammatory response and soothe occasional urinary tract discomforts. Goldenrod supports healthy fluid balance and urinary tract function.
Cornsilk: Zea mays are the long shiny fibers at the top of an ear of corn and is traditionally used to support urinary tract health and promote healthy fluid balance.
