What Is Your Superpower?

What Is Your Superpower?

I love superhero movies—Batman and The Incredibles are a couple favorites. But a while back, someone said something to me that made me rethink what a superhero really is.

Recently a woman said to me, “You’re my superhero.” She’d gone through breast cancer and had seen me on the Today Show talking about the importance of early screenings. She said if she’d gotten a mammogram sooner, her journey might have been easier.

I thanked her—but I also told her the truth. I’m not a superhero.

I’ve never seen a superhero movie where the star has cancer. Still, moments like that made me realize something powerful: sometimes helping people doesn’t require a cape. It just requires showing up, sharing your story, and encouraging others to take care of themselves. Talking about early screenings, healthy habits, and prevention—that’s the superpower I’ve chosen to use.

And here’s the thing: everyone has a superpower. Yes, you do.

Your superpower doesn’t have to be dramatic. It can be simple, quiet, and every day—something that improves your life and touches someone else’s in the process.

Your superpower might look like:

• Taking a walk

• Holding the door for someone

• Eating nutritious foods

• Smiling at someone

• Being courteous

• Kayaking

• Climbing

• Hiking

• Paddleboarding

• Playing sports

• Helping others

• Being a caregiver

• Listening without interrupting

• Practicing gratitude

• Getting enough sleep

• Drinking water throughout the day

• Managing stress

• Showing patience

• Volunteering

• Checking in on a friend• Taking the stairs

• Stretching

• Gardening

• Cooking a healthy meal

• Limiting screen time

• Laughing

• Being kind to yourself

• Asking for help when needed

• Encouraging others

• Scheduling preventive health checkups

• Spending time outdoors

• Breathing deeply and slowing down

• Enjoying a fun hobby

These small actions matter. They add up. And they have more impact than you might ever realize.

So, take a moment and ask yourself: what’s your superpower—and how will you use it today?
